Sexually Transmitted Infections & HIV
Any type of sex, including oral sex, can pass infections, so you need to use condoms to protect you and your partner. Don’t forget that it’s not enough to use other types of contraception, like the pill, without using a condom.
Not all infections have symptoms, so you won’t necessarily know if you or your partner have one. But infections can cause problems if not treated. So get checked out if you have had sex without a condom.
Nottingham City residents can order a Chlamydia screening kit by post, including free return postage. Results are received through a chosen method and also offer a tracking service to track and collect results. To order a kit: www.freetest.me

HIV is caused by a virus which attacks the body’s immune system, – the body’s defence against illness and diseases. Currently there is no cure for HIV; however treatments are available to reduce the progression of the virus and keep the immune system healthy.
If HIV is diagnosed early, treatment is more likely to be effective and people can expect to live a healthy and active life. As a result, HIV is no longer considered a fatal condition but instead a manageable long-term condition. However, early diagnosis remains key.
HIV can affect anyone, the virus does NOT discriminate. Anyone having sex without a condom (this includes if the condom splits or comes off) is at risk regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation or ethnicity.
If you’ve EVER had sex without a condom or the condom split or came off, get tested. It is better to know you have the virus so you can be monitored, treated and kept well.
